Keith Winton Brownell 1912 - 2003 At his request, no memorial service is planned for five-year Bishop resident Keith Winton Brownell, 91. Born in New York on March 17, 1912, Mr. Brownell died on July 21, 2003 in Bishop. Keith graduated from UC Berkeley in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He served in the United States Army during World War II. In private practice in Southern California, his career as a real estate appraiser spanned more than 50 years. His clientele included several branches of the United States government and many corporate clients, including many Fortune 500 companies. He grew to love this area, while repeatedly appraising Mammoth Mountain Ski Area for Dave McCoy. He loved his work, which took him all over the United States and to Europe. Keith served for 20 years as a member of Lamdba Alpha Internaitonal, an honorary land economics society. This worthy organization became an integral part of his life, when he semi-retired at age 80. He held the office of executive vice-president of the San Diego chapter for 10 years. He was proud of his contributions to the group. He loved his five years in Bishop and treasured the many new friendships he made all over town. His family thanked the community for enriching his life in so many ways. Keith is survived by wife of 67 years, Shirley; daughters, Laurie Withrow of Lake Stevens, Wash.; Julie Delespesse of Lisbon, Portugal; and Milllie Scott of Bishop; and three granddaughters.
