Funeral Thursday For Lewis G. Evers Funeral services for Lewis G. Evers, 62, who passed away Tuesday morning at Northern Inyo hospital were scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 19, at 2 p. m. at the Blake Funeral Chapel. Rev. Laing Sibbet of Bishop Presbyterian church was to officiate, and graveside services were to be handled by the Odd Fellows lodge, of which he was a member. Mr. Evers had been in ill health the past year, and death was attributed to cancer. Born in Van Wet, Ohio, June 2, 1887, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton B. Evers, he was educated in Ohio. The Evers family moved from the East to Redondo Beach in 1920, and in 1922 moved to Bishop. He worked first as a barber in the Dick Eldred barber shop where Black’s store is now located at the corner of West Line and Main Sts. Later he had his own shop, the Valley barber shop, on East Line St. He also had engaged in the insurance business for many years. He was a member of the Bishop Elks lodge, as well as the local Odd Fellows lodge, serving at one time as deputy district grand master of the latter organization. He had been most active in the Goodfellows club, serving as secretary for many years, and on several occasions enacting the Santa Claus role for Bishop area children. Surviving are his wife, Martha S. Evers; two sons, Lloyd of San Gabriel and Newton of Bishop; a daughter, Mrs. A. C. Langbridge of San Diego; his mother, Mrs. Ione Watt of Inglewood; a brother, A. D. Evers of Los Angeles; two sisters, Mrs. Isabel Gurley of Honolulu and Mrs. Chas. Redding of Concord, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Barbara, David and Edwin Evers, all of Bishop.
