Funeral Services Held Nov. 19 for Lilas Griffith Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 19 at the Blake Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Lilas Griffith, who died November 17 at her residence at Bishop flowing a heart attack. Mrs. Griffith was born June 16, 1902 in Bear Valley, Mariposa county, the daughter of Frank and Lelia Peregoy. Her grandfather, Fred Peregoy came around the horn from Boston in 1848 prior to the gold strike at Sutter's Fort. He later established a cattle camp and cabins in Yosemite Park near Glacier Pt., the main trail into the valley at that time. The family later changed the camp into a hotel, one of the first in Yosemite. The hotel register included such names as Horace Greely, Mark Twain, W. W. Colt, Mark Hopkins, John Muir, Chas. Coulter, and many others. The hotel was known as the Peregoy house and meadow known as Peregoy meadows. Mrs. Griffith moved to Bishop at the age of 2 with her parents, who started a ranch. She attended grammar school in Bishop and high school at Fresno where she stayed with her brother, Lester C. Peregoy. He died in 1922. In 1918 she married Sam Griffith and had lived at their residence on Pine St. since then. Mr. Griffith died about four and a half years ago. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Buz Peregoy of Madera; Beatrice Peregoy, Lodi; Erma L. Clay, Stockton; Carlton Peregoy, Stockton; and a cousin, Mrs. Evelyn Rufert, Delano. Mrs. Griffith was interested in mining and horses all of her life, and had taken part in many parades in Bishop. Services were conducted by the Rev. H. M. Tragitt and interment was at the Pioneer Cemetery. Pall bearers were Lee Summers, Sabert Keough, Jim Daugherty, Marvin Bell, Verne Summers, and Larry Shunkwiler.
