Lloyd Nicoll Lloyd Nicoll, a Mammoth contractor for many years and the builder of many of the buildings which stand in Mammoth Lakes today, died Friday, Jan. 17, in the veterans' hospital in West Los Angeles. He was 64. Mr. Nicoll was the son of Dan Nicoll who owned the mine at Hilton Creek. He lived most of his life in Mono county. He was the first and only contractor for many years in Mammoth Lakes. Mr. Nicoll is credited with building the first ski lift in Mammoth, a single rope tow. He organized the North Mammoth Fire District which eventually became the county water district board and he served on that board. A veteran of World War II, he served overseas with the Seabees. He also served as a Mono county deputy sheriff from 1949 to 1953. Funeral services were held Monday at Westwood Mortuary and following cremation, Mr. Nicoll's ashes were to be scattered at sea.
