Louise Cleland 1926 - 2003 Services for life-long Bishop resident Louise Cleland will be held graveside at East Line Street Cemetery on Saturday, May 10, at 1 p.m. Born Sept. 26, 1926 on a riverboat on the Ouichita River at Columbia, La., she died May 2, 2003, at Washoe Medical Center in Reno. Louise, a loved member of the Bishop community, was a member of the VFW Auxiliary No. 8988, and worked for the telephone company and several local banks over the yers. She was also a member of the Bishop home guard during World War II, and spent many hours on the roofs of Main Street stores with her binoculars, looking for enemy planes. Everyone enjoyed hearing her tell stories of early Bishop. Some of her fondest memories were of her frequent trips to Hawaii with family members and/or friends. "She will be greatly missed, but her memory will always live on in our hearts," said her family. Survivors include son, Ken and daughter-in-law, Leslie Cleland, of Bishop; granddaughter, Kimberly and her husband, Mike Brooks; grandson, Steven Cleland and his wife, Gina, of Lee Vining; six great-grandchildren, Chad, Jess, Madalyn, Emily, Kamie, and Kelsie; and numerous family and friends.
