Mark Woods Mark G. Woods, a well-known Fairfield educator and youth worker in Solano County, died in his home Thursday, November 11. He was 81. Mr. Woods joined the Old Fairfield Elementary School District in 1918. He served as superintendent of several elementary school districts in California, including 20 years as chief of what was then the Fairfield School District. He stepped down as superintendent in the early 1940s and returned to the classroom until he retired in 1957. His first teaching job was in Benton. The Mark G. Woods School, which was named after him, is now the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District office. It was dedicated in Woods' name October 14, 1957. Mr. Woods also was a charter member of the committee which established the first Boy Scout Troup in Fairfield. He was a native of Napa and had lived in Solano County for 55 years. He was a past Master of Suisun Lodge No. 55 F & AM and was a member of the National & California Retired Teachers Association, Improved Order of Red Men, Suisun Chapter No. 2 Order of the Eastern Star, Fraternal order of the Eagles, Fairfield Lions Club, Solano County Historical Society and the University of California Alumni Association. He is survived by two sons, Philip Woods of San Leandro and Mark Woods of Burlingame; a daughter, Mrs. Frances Hughes of Venice; a sister, Mrs. Ruth McDonough of Hawthorne; 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
