Martha Sanford The spirit of self sacrifice is indeed exemplified in the life and death of Martha Sanford. Stricken with the deadly influenza while caring for those who were ill, she gave her life in humble service to the Master she loved. Born in Earl township, La Salle county, Illinois, June 21, 1895, she came here with her family about nine years ago and won the affections of a host of friends through her kindly Christian character. She was a girl with high ideals, who believed that life held much that was worth while, and her one aim in life was to so equip herself that she might be able to help suffering humanity. Many friends mourn her loss, and sympathize with her people in the sudden ending of a life so young and useful. Two of her brothers, Albert and Stephen, are in the army; two younger brothers remain at home with the father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sanford, while a sister, Mrs. Will Dixon is teaching at Barstow.
