Milton Levy's Death Marked With Regret Recent death of Milton Levy, 62, a lifetime resident of Independence, born May 3, 1885, in the Blaney house, a pioneer Owens Valley hotel, has been marked with regret by his many friends throughout the Owens Valley and in outside areas. Prayers of mourning were read by the Rev. Darrell McCorkle at funeral services held May 7 at the Pioneer Memorial church, Independence, where an overflowing crowd gathered for the last rites. Milt, as he was known to his friends, was one of eight children born to Henry and Mary Levy, early-day hotel operators of Independence. Shortly after the age of 16 he took over the active management of his father's hotel and livery business in Independence and continued to operate it until failing health forced him to retire a few years ago. For more than 20 years he drove the stage between Independence and Kearsarge and from the start was actively connected with the north and south bus service in Owens Valley. Among his notable characteristics was his notable characteristics was his unflagging interest in current affair, which he followed keenly all of his life.
