Patricia Helen Hunter 1932-2004 A memorial service has been set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the Pioneer memorial Methodist Church in Independence for Independence resident Patricia Helen Hunter. Rev. Diane Mettam will officiate. Pat’s ashes will be interred at the independence Cemetery later in the month of September. Pat, the only child of Wilma Stanley Hunter and David Orison Hunter, was born Sept. 3, 1932 in Southgate. She died peacefully at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, Nev. on Aug. 24, 2004. She was 72. Her early childhood years were spent in Lynwood, moving to Rovana in 1944 where her father was a mining engineer. She graduated from Bishop Union High School in 1950. Pat was a lover of books and knowledge. She read voraciously, especially history. Early on, this love of learning was translated into employment. At the tender age of 23, Pat was put in charge of the new Rovana Branch of the Inyo County Free Library, working there for nine years. Later, Pat and her parents moved to Independence, where she continued to work for the Library System in the Central Library. In 1973, Pat began working for the Inyo County assessor, ultimately becoming the office supervisor. She retired from Inyo County in 1993, returning to part-time service as the cataloguer for the Inyo County Free Library. She was employed at the library at the time of her death. Pat cared deeply for animals, especially her three cats, who have been adopted into loving homes. Pat is survived by two cousins, Betty Smith of Hinkley and William Carson of Burbank. Pat’s friends feel her loss acutely. Her calm, independent nature, her loyal affection to animals and people, her intellectual curiosity, and her love of learning are greatly missed. Donations in Pat’s memory may be made to ICARE, or another organization that reflects Pat’s interests. The Inyo Register, Bishop, Inyo County, California Saturday, September 4, 2004 – Page A-2.
