Sgt. Stone’s Funeral Rites This Sunday at Big Pine Vets Hall Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Veterans Hall in Big Pine for Staff Sergeant Paul Stone, who was killed in action in 1944 during the invasion of Leyte, Phillipine Islands. Burial will be in the family plot at the South Cemetery in Big Pine. Born in Bishop in 1917, Sergeant Stone was educated in Bishop schools and at the Indian school at Stewart, Nev. He entered the service at Susanville in 1941. Inyo-Mono veterans will take part in the military rites which will be presented. Charles Wall of Big Pine is in charge of the services. All Bishop veterans taking part in the ceremony should meet at the Legion Hall by 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Surviving Sgt. Paul Stone is his son Randy of Susanville age seven; his former wife, Mrs. J. H. Riley, of Susanville; his father, Tom Stone, of Big Pine; a sister, Mrs. Martin Chavez of Bishop; and six brothers, all of whom were members of the armed forces during World War II.
