Robert Allen Shelton 1924 - 2003 A Celebration of Life was held for former Bishop resident Robert Allen Shelton, 79, on Saturday, July 5, at the Copeland Hall in Bonner's Ferry, Idaho at 1 p.m. Born to Georgett and Ernest Shelton in Los Angeles on March 8, 1924, Mr. Shelton died on June 25, 2003. Bob completed 12 years of school in Los Angeles, and then joined the Navy. He spent four years as an Aviation Chief Radioman, v6 USNR, receiving six medals: the World War II Victory Medal, CAC Wings (3 stars), and the European Pacific and Conduct medals. He was with the fleet that entered Tokyo Bay to accept the surrender of the Imperial Japanese Government, and he assisted in the subsequent occupation of Japan by being in that first quadroon. Bob loved the Navy and all the places he went. After returning from the Navy, he met Everle Reed in Bishop. He went to work for Everle's father in an auto shop in Mammoth Lakes. Bob and Everle were married on Sept. 12, 1947 in bishop, where they made their home with eight children and many foster children. Bob always said that "mom did all the work with the children." Bob owned a TV repair shop with his father and best friend, Jack Schley. They started the first cable service in Bishop. After a vacation to Idaho, Bob and Everle decided to move to Bonner's Ferry. He owned the Arco Service Station for two years, and later bought his first dairy from David Dirks in Movie Springs, Idaho. Deciding to move farther north, he bought a dairy from Gerald Burce. Mom and Dad ran the dairy for 15 years with children Jim, Carmen and John. They sold out to retire, but Bob never retired. He went to work helping people with anything from cars to washers and dryers. He always enjoyed a challenge, and people. Bob enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and the many friends in ;his life. He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Everle; his parents, Ernest and Georgette Shelton; and grandson, Cody McAlpin. Bob is survived by grandson, Jay Shelton; eight children, John and Debbie of Reardon, Wash.; Nancy and Erik Jenson of Bonner's Ferry' Edith and Steve Myers of Bonner's Ferry; Bill Shelton of Eagle Point, Ore.; Carmen and Mike Miller of Colville, Wash.; James Shelton of Bonner's Ferry and Marilyn Charlie of California; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and sister Patricia Alilovich of Redlands.
