Roy Chiatovich Funeral services were held May 16 for Roy Chiatovich, of Bishop, following his death May 10 at Northern Inyo Hospital. He was 53. The Rev. Robert Barron of the Four Square Indian Mission officiated at the service, held at Don Talmage Chapel. Burial was in Sunland cemetery. Mr. Chiatovich was born July 11, 1916 in Bishop. He was a resident of this area all of his life. He married Evelyn Ruth Williams in 1941 and entered the U. S. Army in the same year. He was a staff sergeant in the 141st. Infantry Regiment and fought in Germany, southern France, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco. He had the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the American Defense Service Medal along with others. He was honorable discharged form the Army on June 3, 1945. He was a member of Cline Howard VFW Post 4330 and was active in many of the post's activities. He was post commander in 1968 and had over 100 per cent membership. Mr. Chiatovich was also active in Indian affairs and celebrations. He served on the Owens Valley Piute - Shoshone board of trustees and worked for the board as water master many times, which was his job at the time of his death. His wife Evelyn, was board secretary for many years prior to her death. Mr. Chiatovich always participated in the Labor Day celebration at the Indian Community Hall. He knew many Indian songs, handgame songs, and cry dance songs. He was preceeded in death on May 5, 1956 by his father, Henry Chiatovich, then on January 10, 1965 by his mother, Minnie Grey Chiatovich. On March 11, 1968 he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn. He is survived by two sons, Duane Chiatovich of Chino, and Wayne Chiatovich of Bishop; one daughter, Lois Kennedy of Bishop; two sisters, Marjorie Jones of Bishop, and Mrs. Helen McGee of Bishop; three grandchildren, Tracy and Dee Ann Chiatovich of Chino, and Evelyn Marie Kennedy of Bishop. Pallbearers were Larry William, Walter Maine, Manuel McCloud, G. R. Bethel, Bud Cashbaugh, and Moon.
