Final Rites Are Held For Samuel Clark Carter Samuel Clark Carter, a pioneer of the Mammoth Lakes and Bishop area, died at the Northern Inyo Hospital last Friday morning after a short illness. He was 78 years old. The body was accompanied to Glendale where services were held Tuesday afternoon and burial followed in the Inglewood Memorial Park. The Blake Funeral Chapel of Bishop was in charge of final arrangements. Born in Indiana November 13, 1876, Mr. Carter moved to Los Angeles more than 50 years ago to engage in the garage business and several years later branched out to the general machine shop field. He was the founder of the S.C. Carter Co., Inc. in Los Angeles. During WW I and II, he rendered valuable cooperation to the government. Even before the Aqueduct was completed, he became interested in Mammoth and Bishop and upon retiring from active business made this area his permanent home. He is survived by Olive and Malvern Barker and also a grandson, Richard C. Barker and his wife, Shirley, and their two children, Robert and Mary of Manahu Lodge at Mammoth Lakes.
