Scott Christopher Duncan A memorial service is planned in Independence at the American Legion Hall on Saturday, February 22, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. for Scott Duncan, a 26-year Owens Valley resident. Scott died at the age of 51 at his mother's home in Chula Vista with his mother, wife, son, brothers and sisters at his side. A memorial service was held in Chula Vista Jan. 3. Scott was born on July 31, 1951 in Chula Vista (San Diego), where he first learned his trade as an automobile mechanic. In 1976, he moved to the town of Independence where he took over the Shell Station from O.K. and Anna Kelley. That same year he married Jennifer Brooks, who joined him in operating Duncans' Garage (formerly Duncans' Shell Station). In 1980, their family expanded with the arrival of their son, Scott Patrick. During this period, Scott C. became well known for his honest and hard working mechanical ability. He was very compassionate and generous to those who had special needs. He kept the school buses, ambulances, ranchers; and government agency vehicles running, as well as those he especially loved to serve, the "locals." He was a member of the Lions Club, Independence Civic Club, Chamber of Commerce and Automotive Bureau and other organizations, and donated freely to many community organizations. He was a Little League coach for several years, which was a joy for him. Scott loved to ride dirt-bike motorcross with his son and friends, and loved to water-ski and play cards. He loved the Owens Valley for its wide-open spaces and the wonderful townspeople of Independence. Scott was a wonderful man, husband, father, son and brother. In his own quiet way he was able to light up a room. Scott is survived by his wife of 26 years, Jennifer Duncan, and son Scott, of Bishop; mother and stepdad, LaVona and Bruce Meiser of Chula Vista; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Linda of Lewiston and David and Sandi of Borrega Springs; and sisters, Kathleen Weisser of Chula Vista and Patricia Mitchell of Reno, NV, along with many nieces, nephews and other family members. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Hospice of the Owens Valley, 155 Pioneer Lane, Bishop, CA 93514; or the San Diego Hospice, 4311 Third Ave., San Diego, CA 92103.
