Silas H. Reynolds Dies in New York Inyo has lost a valued citizen whose influence will be missed. Silas H. Reynolds died in New York Monday. This announcement will be heard with deepest regret by Inyo people, even though the news was anticipated. "There was a man" in every respect: one of the county's best citizens; one whose opinions and convictions commanded respect because they were known to be sincere; one whose reputation was synonymous with honesty, in conduct as in opinions. This writer knew Si Reynolds from mutual boyhood; and while not having much opportunity for intimate acquaintanceship during later years, has never heard or known of anything to his discredit. Mr. Reynolds served as Supervisor from the Darwin district for several years, and was one of directing forces on the Board. His ideas were progressive, broad, and above the little local ideas which are sometimes found in such bodies; his official actions were dictated by logical reasoning, so that whether one accorded with him or not in conclusions, his honesty of belief was honored. He was his own man, and his record will stand as that of one of the best Supervisors the county has ever had. He was a leading businessman, and a strong force in his own community Darwin as well as elsewhere in the county. His loss will be felt elsewhere as well as there. His death was the ending of the dangerous affliction which came on him some years ago, and which he vainly tried to conquer. In his trails he has had the constant and devoted care and attention of his wife, who was formerly Miss Mamie Hession, of Independence. A brother, James E. Reynolds is and has been Superintendent of Schools of Ventura County for some years. Their mother and Miss Nellie Reynolds, a sister, live in Los Angeles, and two sisters, Mrs. J. E. Eibeshutz and Mrs. C.I. MacFarlane, are residents of Independence. The remains were shipped from New York Tuesday, and interment will occur in Los Angeles.
