The Late Sixtet(orig. error) Chabre Sixte Chabre died last Friday at the Quarantine hospital of pneumonia. He as a native of the Department of Hautes-Alpes, France, and on November 1st would have been 49 years old. Deceased was on of the best known sheep owners of the region. He had been in America for about 30 years. He began coming here for Bakersfield with his flocks some 17 years ago, and during the period since has become to a considerable extent a part-time citizen of Inyo and Mono counties. The rising fortunes of sheep growing favored him, with other during the last few years. He was liberal with the means coming to him for that source. One of his notable gifts was the deposit in the First National Bank of $1,000 to the credit of the first five young men drafted from here for army service, the money to be used for any purpose necessary to welfare of Inyo's soldiers. Ben F. Barlow was made treasurer of that fund. Deceased is survived by his wife and a son, Pete, aged about 16 years. They came from Bakersfield in response to a telegram from L. Weill. Mrs. Chabre will return here to aid in adjusting affairs, as her husbands flocks are in the vicinity of Benton. A procession of his fellow countrymen, his brethren of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and of other friends escorted the remains to Laws Sunday. They were shipped to Bakersfield for interment, which was conducted by the Eagles and the Local Order of Moose.
