Tawny Barnes
1953-2004

Memorial services will be held at a later date for Gail Ann Tawny Barnes.

Tawny was 50 years old when she died at her parents’ home in Independence.  She was born on September 25, 1953 in Barstow 
to Wayne Arthur and Elva Harris Barnes, and died on Sept. 2, 2004.

She attended local schools and graduated from Barstow High School.  She attended Santa Barbara City College and later 
lived in Santa Cruz, becoming a professional house painter.

Tawny came to the Owens Valley in 1986.  She enjoyed art and painting as well as horseback riding and dogs.  She had many 
friends in the Owens Valley who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Barnes.  Tawny is survived by her mother and stepfather, Elva Newman and 
Robert Newman of Fort Independence; brother, Fay Lynn Barnes of Barstow; and one niece and a nephew.
