William Edwin Hollis Memorial services will be held for 51 year Bishop resident William Edwin Hollis, 82, on Saturday, Nov. 9, at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Bishop at 11 a.m. Born Nov. 4, 1919 in Caldwell, Kan.; Mr. Hollis died on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Washoe Medical Center in Reno. Bill moved from Kansas to Burbank, Calif. in 1937. He served with honor during World War II in the Army Air Corps. Upon discharge, he attended Cal State Los Angeles and received an education degree. Moving to Bishop in 1951, Bill taught at Bishop Union Elementary Schools until retiring in 1983, and also taught history at Cerro Coso Community College. Bill said it was time to retire from elementary teaching when he started teaching third generation students. Mr. Hollis was a member of the Owens Valley Democratic Central Committee and co-founded the Retired Teachers Club. Active in the Bishop Community, he served as a Lay Reader at the St. Timothy's Church for many years. He was a past master and member of Winnedumah Free Mason Lodge in Bishop, and was a member of the Bishop Chapter of the Lion's Club. Bill served on the Inyo County Grand Jury and most recently enjoyed serving on the Tri-County Fair Board. Mr. Hollis was preceded in death by parents, Felix and Murial (McCune) Hollis, and his brothers, Jack and Norman. Bill is survived by wife of 44 years, Bonny Jean; daughter, Janet Kinney of St. Helena, Calif.; sons, Paul of Reno and Norm of Sacramento; and grandchildren, Justin, James, Jill, Jolene, Bear, Laurel, Ariel and Jaclyn.
