Woodrow "Woody" Carrington 1916 - 2003 Services will be held for longtime Bishop resident Woodrow "Woody" Carrington, 86, on Tuesday, July 22, at St. Timothy's Church in Bishop at 10 a.m. Born the fourth of six children to Eda and Guy Carrington on August 24, 1916 in El Segundo, Mr. Carrington died on July 16 at his home in Bishop, surrounded by his family. The Carringtons moved to the shores of Mono Lake in 1923, where Woody attended grade school in a one-room schoolhouse. He attended Lee Vining High School for two years, and attended Bishop High School for the final two, graduating in the class of 1934. Woody's father, Guy, and Guss Hess built the first gar age in what is now Lee Vining. In 1926, Guy built an establishment, the June Lake Junction, at the old intersection of State Route 158 and U. S. 395. In 1935, Woody moved the gas station, garage, lunch counter and residence to the present location. Woody went to work for Los Angeles Department of Water and Power on the "mono Basin" job in the '30s. He was a master welder for Douglas Aircraft during World War II. After the war, he went back to work for LADWP until his retirement in 1976. While working for LADWP, Woody invented an automatic seed machine that, with modifications, is still in use today. He was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Free and Accepted Masons for 50 years. Woody and Hazel Rider were married in 1937. The marriage was blessed with one son, Michael. Hazel died in 1977, and Woody married Janie in 1978. Woody was loved and respected by all who knew him and all were fortunate to have him as a part of their lives. He is survived by wife of 24 years, Janie; sisters, Bernice Swader, Marie Coakley and Gerry Morgan; son, Michael and wife Paula; grandson, Damon and wife Wendy Carrington; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Alysha; grandson, Derek and wife Denelle Carrington; great-grandson, Colton; daughter Patty and husband Rick Holaday; grandson, James and wife Teresa Holaday; great-grandchildren Ronald, Elizabeth and Raena; grandson, Andrew Holaday; daughter, Peggy and husband Steve Young; grandchildren, Zachary and John; son, Robert and wife Teresa Lay; grandchildren, Kendra and Wesley; daughter, Mary Loud and husband Steve Cobbett; and grandchildren, Melissa, Shannon and Katelyn. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the Hospice of the Owens Valley or St. Timothy's Church. Interment will be at the East Line Street Cemetery.
