Nathan Clark Mace, Sr. was a loving husband, daddy, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and a friend to everyone who knew him.
Born September 1, 1927 and raised in Onyx, CA. Nathan was a resident of Weldon all of his life. He attended South Fork Elementary
School, and went on to Sherman Institute Indian School in Riverside for his high school education. He served In the United States Army overseas In Germany and Korea and was discharged November 3, 1956. He was proud to serve his country and was proud of his Native American Paiute/Shoshone heritage. His unique personality touched so many lives as only he could do. Cowboying in the high country was his way of life. He enjoyed on spending time with his family, hunting, driving his truck, listening to. country music, riding his horse, and telling stories. He had two worked at the sawmill In Johnsondale when it was operating, and the many local ranches. His stories of his Indian heritage and service any In the Armed Forces will live on through his and wife, children and grandchildren. He was preceded In death by his son. Mark Dale Mace, Sr. He is survived by his wife and sweetheart of 41 years, Pauline J. Mace; his children. Colleen J. Alvary, Patricia A. Virgil, Nataline A. Bennett of Bakersfield. Nathan C. Mace, Jr. II, Paul C. Mace, Pauline R. Mace, Lisa R. Mace, Yvonne M. Smith of Weldon, Sherry L Mace of Bodfish, Andrew B. Mace, Loretta J. Garcia of Oregon; 9 granddaughters, 10 grandsons, 1 great-granddaughter; sons-in-law. Forest L. Helm, Rick Alvary Sr., Rick Bennett, Shane Martinez of Bakersfield, Raymond Garcia of Oregon, Russell Laird of Weldon: sisters, Irene Miranda of Las Vegas, NV, Angie Tungate. Patricia Casteel, Mildred Somara of Tracy. CA.; brothers-in-law, Raymond J. Hunter of Benicia, Roy Casteel, Everett Tungate; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Father Rodrigo Ortiz will officiate, and interment will be in Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery. Mr. Madrid was born May 21, 1910 in the Philippine Islands and had resided in Kern County for 31 years. He was self-employed in the agricultural business for 55 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, and was a member of the American Legion in Delano, and the Filipino Community of Delano. Survivors include his wife, Rosie A. of Bakersfield; daughters, Rose Mary Madrid of Tustin, CA, Linda Barkley of La Crescenta, CA; Alice Rose Bingham of Agoura, CA, and Valerie Jean Gonzales of Bakersfield; sons, Franklin E. Madrid of Covina, Alexander Lee Madrid of Bakersfield, and Napoleon R. Long Time Resident of Valley Dies
Funeral services were held recently for Isaac Bennett Markham, 76, of Burlando Road, Kernville. Markham died Nov. 3 at Kern County general Hospital in Bakersfield.
Markham was born in Ida Grove, Iowa in 1891 and moved to Old Kernville shortly after his marriage in 1913. He worked around the Valley as a handyman for awhile and then went to work on the construction of So. Calif. Edison Co. KS-3 powerhouse above Kernville. After that he started carrying mail from Kern Valley to Johnsondale which he continued to do until his retirement 25 years later. Markham is survived by his wife, Katherine. Funeral services were held at Turner Funeral Home Chapel in Wofford heights, and interment was in Kern River Valley District Cemetery. The Rev. James Wyatt of First Southern Baptist Church of Kern Valley officiated. Pallbearers were Johnny Burlando, Ken Hed, Eddie Metz, Curtis Anderson, Henry, Seely and Fred Kirster. Organist was Iloe Schmitz Crume.

Martin, Jack - Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Mish Funeral Home - Oildale for Jack Martin, 82, who died April 3 in his home after a sudden illness. The BPO Elks #266 will officiate and burial will be in Union Cemetery. Mr. Martin was a native of Kentucky and had lived in this community for the past 66 years. He was a self-employed owner of the M&M Oil Co. for the last 50 years and had worked for Signal Oil Co. as a distributor for 24 years and had been semi-retired at the time of his death. He was a member of the BPO Elks #266 and was a member of the Old Dull Team. Three years ago he received his 45 year pen and life membership in this organization. He was a member of the footprinters and was a reserve Deputy Sheriff as a member of the sheriff's Posse. He is survived by his wife Beatrice Pauline; his son, Jordan C. of Nipoma, his daughters, Barbara Backlund of Coronado, Judy Gardner of Tallahassee, Florida, Laquita Reeves of Fresno; his sister Mabel Monan and Ruby McGregor both of Bakersfield. Eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Michael, David, and Chris Martin, Gary and Steve Backlund, and Phillip Reynolds. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe English, George Townsend and Lloyd Morris.

Headline: Kern Cyclist Dies in Race Track Skid
Norman Dean McKenzie, 30, 1204 Brentwood Drive, was killed at a race track at Dunlap, a foothill community east of Fresno Sunday when the motorcycle slid across a dirt track and threw the victim headfirst into a pole, the Highway patrol said in an Associated Press dispatch.
McKenzie, a welder, was wearing a crash helmet at the time. Survivors include the widow, Veronica. Hillcrest Mortuary is handling funeral arrangements.

James McTeer Dies at a Local Hospital
James McTeer, a native of Collinsville, Illinois, died last evening at a local hospital. His sister, Mrs. Charles Brown, resides at 1515 Beale Ave. The deceased was 35 years old and unmarried. The body was prepared for shipment at Templeton's Undertaking parlors and was shipped this afternoon to Collinsville, ILL where it will be interred.

Mr. Guss Mertens was born Nov. 17, 1875 in Louisiana and died Dec 20, 1944 at the Mojave Hospital. He was 69 years 1 month and 3 days of age. Mr. Mertens was the brother of Alphonse Mertens of Mojave, California. The remains with the O'Donnell Funeral Home in charge were taken to the J. Allen Gulick Mortuary and laid to rest in Calvery Cemetery in Los Angeles, California. Mr. Mertens was of the Catholic Faith.
