The Whittier Area Genealogical Society (WAGS) was established on May 16, 1981 and currently has over 200 members. Regular General Meetings with a guest speaker are held at 1:00 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month throughout the year and are open to the public. Before the General Meeting, the Morning Class, a general instructional class begins at 10:30 a.m.  The Beginner's Workshop, a small, personalized genealogical help class, also meets at 10:30 a.m. These last two classes do not meet June, July, August, and December.

GENERAL MEETING TOPIC, 1:00 pm / New Netherland Research
GUEST SPEAKER: Mary Van Orsdol

Mary will discuss several important concepts including personal names, naming patterns, and patronymics, as well as exploring the various record groups needed to construct a family history of these early American colonists.

She has prepared an extensive bibliography of New Netherland resources that can be used as a checklist for research.
