CACHE CREEK SCHOOL

Cache Creek School district was formed by 1881. The school was in section 8, immediately on the south side of Highway 20, near the North Fork of Cache Creek, on flat land but against the rough mountain. The schoolhouse was first about 200 yards north of where George Wray had his house. This building burned about 1916. The school then moved from one private house to another for several years, and then there wasn't any school for several more years.

(Student, Velma Hanson): "When we moved to Lake County 1n 1887, school was held in a vacant home on a point of land across the creek east of the present Cache Creek bridge. During the winter it was held in an upstairs room of Dan Hanson's home on the west side of the creek.)

(1893 - Teacher, Lennie Moore: "At that time the school was located about a mile north of the Dan Hanson ranch. I think it was moved twice after that, first down by the big bridge across Cache Creek, and later to a place near the Hanson Ranch. I had over thirty scholars, all ages and sizes, among them was Velma Hanson, who graduated from my school and then went to Lakeport to Prof. Overholser.")
