The county was named for Peter Lassen, a Danish settler who was murdered by Indians in 1859.

 

Estimated Population (2004): 34,661.

 

County Seat: Susanville.

 

Area: 4,557 square miles.

Bush in the last two presidential elections. In the November 2000 race, (countywide) 7,080 people voted for Bush and 2,982 voted for Gore. Nader received 339 votes.
