So, what exactly IS a GenWeb project?

In March and April 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties within the State of Kentucky where collected databases would be stored. Furthermore, the databases would be indexed and cross-referenced, so that even if an individual was found in more than one county, he or she could be located in the central index. This project is an outgrowth of that original project.

Jeff Donald Murphy, of Redmond, Oregon, was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, son of Powell Davis Murphy and Marjorie (Morrison) Murphy. Jeff was the founder of the KYGenWeb, the USGenWeb, USBIOGRAPHIES, and co-founder of KYBIOGRAPHIES.

Today, the USGenWeb Project is a loosely organized group of volunteers that work to create a center for genealogical research for every county within the United States.

The first California USGenWeb Project page was loaded onto the Internet on July 16, 1996. Lassen County Neighbors

Modoc County: Lassen County’s northern neighbor.

Plumas County: Lassen County’s co-parent county and neighbor to the south-southwest. Researchers seeking individuals that lived in the Honey Lake area of Lassen County may wish to check this county’s site for pertinent information.

Shasta County: Lassen County’s co-parent county and neighbor to the west.

Sierra County: Lassen County’s southern neighbor.

Washoe County (Nevada): Lassen County’s eastern neighbor.

Volunteers are needed and appreciated always.

Particular areas of need include lookups, photo records, and census transcriptions. If you possess Lassen County reference materials or do not mind making an occasional trip to the local library or courthouse, your services are greatly required. Full credit always is given for submissions of old photographs of historical places or people within Lassen County. If you are interested in transcribing Federal Census records for Lassen County, your assistance will be appreciated.
