I have attached the text of a letter I have that was written by my ggg grandfather to my great great grandmother (his daughter) from Ione in 1859. The William he speaks of is his son who was a judge in CA and NV. Susan and her husband, Dr. Hugh Rodman were living in Frankfort, KY.

One of Susan and Hugh Rodman's sons was Admiral
Hugh Rodman who took the American fleet to join the British Grand Fleet
during World War I. He accepted the German surrender. He later
brought the American fleet through the Panama Canal to establish the first
American fleet in the Pacific. He was the first Commander of the Pacific
fleet. His brother, Dr. John Rodman, was my great grandfather.
