4. BENJAMIN FRANKLIN LYONS b.abt1876 Mendocino Co. d.? disappeard at sea 1900 after death of his wife, leaving 2 small children.

Joseph BENNETT (SKIBINSKI), b. 25 Sep 1940 in Ukiah, CA. Born to Dorothy SKIBINSKI (HEDEMARK) and her husband (his first name is not known, but his surname was SKIBINSKI). Mr. SKIBINSKI and Dorothy SKIBINSKI (HEDEMARK) were divorced in Vallejo, CA in 1944. In 1945 Dorothy married William L. BENNETT who adopted Joseph SKIBINSKI. His name then became Joseph Contantine BENNETT, but his nick name was "Chip".I am not sure how long the SKIBINSKI family lived in the Ukiah area, but I would love to find any information available on these individuals Thank you! 

Looking for information on the BARTOW family in Humboldt County, Napa County, and Mendocino County. My earliest ancestor of this name is John H. BARTOW, who came to Humboldt County via the OR Trail in 1850. He d. in 1862 and had a number of children by Sophronia WHITE, daughter of Asa Preston WHITE. I am descended from his son, John Alfred BARTOW, who married Elizabeth MCCOMBS in Napa Co. His daughter, Josephine Laura BARTOW, was b. in Napa, but she lived in Arcata at the family home. She married my great grandfather, George Arthur PALMER, (son of Zachariah Taylor PALMER) in 1905 before moving to Tulare, CA. Yetta married Svente T. HALLENGREN abt 1865 in Sonoma county, CA. Maggie married James Lafayette "Lafe" DUNLAP 10 Mar 1867 at Dry Creek, Sonoma county, CA. Theodore married Anna SELLARS 7 Jun 1885 in Sonoma county, probably at Dry Creek also. Theodore and Anna had 11 children: Rollo, John Edwin, Nettie Ena, & Mable Ann all born near Healdsburg, Sonoma county, and Ethel Gladys, Elvira Ruth, Daisy Hazel, Harvey, Ivan, and Eldon born in Mendocino Co. The move must have been abt 1892. Maggie and Lafe DUNLAP had 10 children: Ida May, Ena Bell, James Leroy, Mabel Isadore, Francis Linden, Caroline Nettie, Theodore Wallace, Gladys Leola, Leland Stanford and Leslie Raymond. Ida and Ena were born in Sonoma county, the others in Mendocino. Both of these families settled in the mountains north of Covelo. I believe Yettie (BREIDENSTEN) and Svente HALLENGREN stayed in Sonoma county and raised several children. John Theodore BRIGHTENSTINE died supposedly in Georgetown, El Dorado Co., CA between 1870 and 1877 when his wife married Hugh PATTEN in Santa Rosa, CA. I would like to know the death date and place for John Theodore BRIGHTENSTINE. Nettie (WAGNER) BRIGHTENSTINE PATTEN died 8 Dec 1888 in or near Healdsburg. Would like to know where she is buried. I am looking for any information about John Theodore BRIGHTENSTINE and his wife Nettie (WAGNER). When did they come to America? Where did they come from? I will be happy to share what information I have, and would like to correspond with any discendants. Thanks for your help. 

Looking for information on a young man that died on Oct 18, 1989 in Ukiah from Aids. He was 20 years old and his first name was Joseph. That is the only information I have on him. Wanting to find info for his half sister that didin't even know he existed. 

I am seeking verification that my great grandfather, Peter MC ADAM, was a 49er in Mendocino County and the man that Mc Adam Creek was named after. He would have been living with a lady he would later wed in Benicia, Ellen Fogarty.

The Lovejoys and Lockhearts were some of the first families to settle in the Horseshoe Bend area. They moved in around 1880. Two Lockheart sons Loriston and George married two Lovejoy sisters Annie Laura and Lucretia (Lulu) respectively. Loriston and Lucretia had the Wilderness Ranch for many years. I would like more information about my G-Grandparents and Grandmother. Not only am I looking for descendants, but also any birth, death, land deed, marriage information. Loriston and Lulu (Lockhart) Lovejoy ran the Wilderness Lodge, George and Annie (Lockhart) Lovejoy ran the Horseshoe Bend Lodge.

I am searching for Eddie family ancestry. My name is William Eddie, as is my father's. My grandfather's name is Donahoo (Don) Eddie, born and raised in Potter Valley, CA, as far as I know. After watching a documentary on the Donner Party, I was curious whether I may be of relation to a William Eddy, a Donner Party member who survived the trip, and had a son also named William Eddy, Jr. The Eddie, Eddy, Eaddy family is plagued with creative spelling. Looking for help with the WILKIN and HARRINGTON families. Frank Leslie WILKIN married Cora SNYDER in Morrow Co OR. After the 1920 census they leave Oregon and come to Philo, CA in Mendocino Co. Rumor says they died here. In a 1935 obit in Astoria, OR for Franks sister Nellie WILKIN EDWARDS GILLESPIE, says that Frank is in Philo. Their mother Lucinda (Lucy) GENTRY WILKIN HARRINGTON is also alive at the time of the obit. She was to also be in CA. His mother may have been with them. They all came in from Morrow Co OR. Did they all die in Mendocino Co? Are they buried there? Are there any relatives still in the area? Who was Lucy HARRINGTON's husband? Any information on these people or their relatives would be a great help. Any information on these families would be helpful. 

James PURSELL b. 1831 and Rachel Rice COSHOW PURSELL came to CA by ox team and wagon in 1854. James worked as a carpenter for the Central Pacific RR building snowsheds and bridges in the Sierras in 1867-68. My great grandmother, Mary Adeline PURSELL was born circa 1868 in Truckee. James and his brothers went on to become loggers, after doing similar work for the RR. My only clue is that my grandfather (Mary Adeline's son) spent a very great deal of time in the Eel River area during his life. Any information on the PURSELL family in Mendocino County is sincerely appreciated. 

I'm looking for descendants of Mr Leander Siltanen, who was living in Mendocino county at least 1910' and 1930's since I found from my childhood home a letter sent by him, giving return address Fort Bragg, Box 260, Mendocino Co., California, USA. He was born in Finland, Ostrobothnia area, near town called Kristina, in a small village Willamo, this is in district of Vaasa (then called Wasa laani). One particular letter was dated Dec 1, 1933, also a card was later sent from same place dated May 8, 1913. One of his sisters immigrated at the same time to Butte, Montana, she was Hilda Henry and had daughters Hilda Julia and Emma.

All mail was addressed to my great-grandfather Heikki (Karl Henrik) Junttila, letters and mails also included his children Eino, Arvid, Selma and Aino (Aini) who was my beloved grandmother; their brother Vilho was not mentioned in these letters.

It would be a heartwarming event if any of you could help me in this and I'd like to thank in advance for your time and effort.

Frans Leander Siltaoja

Leander Siltanen applied for passport and boat ticket with name Frans Leander Siltaoja (he preferred Leander, though), he was born in Finland, 12 Oct 1886, and likely died sometime around 1940's-early 1960's. Family used originally last name Nupula until 1893, later changed to Siltaoja, and Leander changed it to Siltanen. He took boat Arcturus from Finland in June 1907 and from England in July 1907 he came to New York on Carmania, he had stated San Francisco as destination in his documents.

In addition to sister Hilda Henry, also his brother Konrad Siltaoja came to US, Bessemer, Michigan was his destination, he came through Boston in 1899 but he died in Jan 1918 in Butte, Montana. Also sister Albertiina Siltaoja (earlier Nupula), uncle Johan Henrik Mannila and cousin Frans Henrik Mannila came to U.S.

I am looking for in formation on Dora SUTHERLAND born in Mendocino County in the late 1800's. She was married to a man with the surname of THURMAN. She later married a man with the surname CHADBOURNE. She is believed to have died with the name Dora CHADBOURNE. She had several children from these marriages. Their names were Ida, and Leona THURMAN and Ed and Dave CHADBOURNE. Dora's father was Daniel Anderson SUTHERLAND. Her mother was an Indian woman who was found after the massacure at Big Flat as a baby and raised by a local white family. Dora also had several brothers and sisters with the names of Enic, Oliver/Henry, Dave, Andrew and Florence. We are looking for any birth, death, marriage, census or land records that will assist us. Looking for information regarding the family of Frank SMITH thought to be living in Mendocino County ca 1865. Frank SMITH was from Kentucky and brought his family to California via Mexico and settled in Sherwood Valley. Frank had a daughter, Ellen "Josephine" SMITH, born 13 March 1852 in "Lewisburg", Kentucky. She married Austin A. ROOT of Little Lake, Mendocino County. It is thought that Josephine was raised by her aunt and uncle, John and Martha JACKSON. Martha Jackson may have been the sister of Ellen Josephine's mother. Austin and Josephine ROOT moved on to Oregon in the 1880s. 

I was told yesterday of a previously unknown brother of my ggrandfather. His son, Fred SMITH, supposedly owned a ranch in Covelo. I'd like to get the entire name of Fred, (probably Alfred) and any names of his wife and children. The name, Mr. Burrell SHEALDS, may be connected somehow, as I found an article in which my uncle returned to Willows after a visit to said SHEALDS in Covelo. Looking for information on my 2nd great grand uncles James DIXON (b. Abt 1830) and his brother John DIXON who emigrated to America from County Wexford, Ireland in 1848. James DIXON bought 7,000 acres of land at Fort Ross (Sonoma County) in 1867 and remained until 1873. He ran a sawmill at Fort Ross and also farmed oats and probably ran a dairy. In 1873, James DIXON moved his sawmill to Bridgeport in Mendocino County. There he also built a steam saw mill on Greenwood creek near Cuffey's Cove. He also built a mill with Fred HELMKE in Switzer Gulch in 1872. He was postmaster of Bridgeport from June 1879 through September 1879. It is believed that he was killed in a logjam accident though I have no idea when or where. He married Eliza Elizabeth SHULER April 1, 1967. John DIXON died April 13, 1906 and probably married Mary MCCRACKEN in Sonoma County February 24, 1854. I have no other details of his life. Interested in any information on either James or John DIXON, especially if either of them had any children.

I am hoping to find information about Elisha CHAMBERLAIN/LIN who was in Calpella, Mendocino Co., in April of 1885. I am hoping to find how long he was in Mendocino Co. and also his date of death and any obituary information available. I don't know for sure if he did die in Mendocino Co., but at this is the last place I know for sure that he was living, it is a logical place to start. He was 70 yrs. old in 1885, born (prob) in NY. Any help finding Elisha will be greatly appreciated. 

Seeking further info on my ggg grandfather, JOHN COX, born in PA in 1788, d. 1868 in Ukiah. Buried in the Cox Family Plot in Ukiah Cemetery. I am seeking information on the parents and/or siblings of Alfred Higgins,
Sr. who resided in Mendocino Co, CA.  He died in Ukiah 31 Mar 1900 and he was
preceded in death 18 Mar 1884 by his wife Jane (Routh) Higgins who he married
12 Jun 1827 in Jefferson Co, TN.  They had 7 children; John, William, George
Washington, Edward, James Preston, Nancy Jane, and Alfred, Jr.

Hello I am trying to find out who the parents of my Greatgrandfather
were, his name was JAMES WILLIAM MCKINLEY b. 1840-41 in MO or Tn. his
older brother was ROBERT b. 1830-31 TN.  I think James and Roberts
mothers name was ELIZABETH b. about 1807 in SC and both her parents were
born in VA.  The Mendocino County, CA. census states that James and
Roberts father was born in TN.  As far as I know they came to Calif.
with both parents prior to at least 1871.  JAMES WILLIAM  married SARAH
FROST June 28, 1871.  ROBERT married Margaret A. b. about 1840-41 and
she was born in KY as were both of her parents.  That is all I know of
that generation.   My Grandfather was JAMES WILLIAM MCKINLEY JR. b. in
Willits, CA. and married Lura Bell Reed.  Any information on James Sr.
and his family would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I am looking for more info on Elijah Preston Howell, b. 11 Dec 1803,
Grayson Co., Va., d. 17 Jun 1879, Redwood Valley, Mendocino, Ca.  He m.
Margaret Jane Moreland 18 Dec 1851 in Santa Clara Co., Ca.  There were nine
children from this union: Nancy, b. 19 Sep 1852, Benicia, Solano, Ca., m.
William Franklin Jameson, 27 May 1877; John; James; Martha; Elizabeth;
Mary; Andrew; Elma J.; and William.  Elijah and his brother John J. left
Northern Missouri for the Ca. gold mines, 6 May 1849.  Elijah kept a diary
of this 144 day Ox-team journey, a copy of which, I understand, is in the
State Library at Sacramento.  I would appreciate any help and would like to
get in touch with anyone researching this Howell line.  Thank you.

Calvin A. HOPPER, son of William HOPPER came to Mendocino County in 1860
with his parents. He married Virginia F. Burgess on 24 September, 1871.
In September 1872, they had a daughter Laura. Other children were Hattie, Lulu and Jeanette.

Laura HOPPER married Samuel John MARTIN in September, 1892-94. In 1895
they had a son, George Irvin MARTIN, born in British Columbia, CAN.

His parents were Jens Peter Junker and Sara Louisa Magnusson.  His brothers

I am looking for information on Thomas Lowery FRAZIER and Hugh Harrison
FRAZIER.  I believe they were brothers and came to Mendocino county in the
1860s.  Thomas married Eliza Jane JACKSON, and Hugh married her sister,
Mary A. JACKSON.  They claimed to be from OH, but I have not been able to
find their parents.

Samuel Hines Taylor, 1826-1906, married Catherine Morrison and they had 8
children: Andrew, Effie L. married James Howe, James Lee, Martha Ellen
married Ernest Fitch, Alice M. married James Lytle, Samuel H.Jr., Nettie
married Henry Heyward and William Steinbring, Elsie L. Would like to locate
and correspond with any descendants of these families. I am working on a
Taylor Family History Book of all the descedants of this Taylor family from

settled in Covelo in the late 1890's. James Henry RIFFE and wife
Elizabeth BURDG and had 6 children; Ethel, Clyde, Lester, Bertha,
Loretta and Lorena. James' brother Abraham T. RIFFE and wife Annie
KELLEY lived in Covelo and Willits, and had 4 children; Milton, Kitty,
Laura and Leolla. James' and Abraham's younger bachelor brother,
Winchester also lived in Covelo and worked for the forest service at
Lookout Mountain.

Looking for information re WARREN and ROBKER families who were living in
Guala and Point Arena area in the 1870's and 1880's. The Warrens
originally were from Maine. After Charles Warren's death, wife Rebecca
and daughter Harriet(Hattie) remained in California. Hattie married John
Robker(sp.)who worked in a sawmill in Point Arena until his death 17
June,1886. Hattie, the six children, and her mother continued to live in
Guala. Children's names were Fred,born c 1875,Charles,Roy(Ray)
Elvie,born c 1879,Vernie,born c 1877,and Grace,born c 1884.Family were
very involved with their church acticites. Would like to establish
contact with any descendants to share information.

I am looking for Anne (Eva Sofia) Boissonou (Johnson, Johanson, Anderson,
Andersen) born November 22, 1877 in Lindehult Sweden.  She had two
children named Clifford and Mabel with Joseph Boissonou in the Ashland or
Price County Wisconsin area.  Joseph was a construction worker and away
from home alot.  Eva Sofia did not like this kind of life and left him.

The family moved to Portland, Oregon cica 1908 - 1909 and later settled
in Ukiah, California.  It is believed that Anne (Eva Sofia) was married
to a Mr. Andersen or Anderson.

Clifford was born circa 1904 - 1905 in either Ashland or Price County
Wisconsin.  At age 12 he left home in Ukiah to live and work on a dairy
farm with the Corbett family in the Willits area.  Clifford graduated
from the Willits High School and entered the University of California at
Berkeley 1922-1923.  A high school teacher named Willis loaned Clifford
$500 for college which was repaid.

Mabel was born circa 1908 - 1909 in either Ashland or Price County
Wisconsin.  At the age of 9 Mabel went to live nearby with Anna and Henry
Hansen in Ukiah.  There was a catholic church and convent between the two
households.  When the Hansens moved to Newman California Mabel went with
them with Eva Sofia's permission.  In Newman, Mabel worked in a local
bakery were she met Hans William Hansen.  They were married November 27,
1923.

The last know contact with Anne (Eva Sofia) Boissonou (Johnson, Johanson,
Anderson, Andersen) was when she visited Clifford between 1924 and 1929
while he was at Berkeley.  She may have had or needed surgery at the
University of California Hospital in San Francisco.  She may have been
living in Humboldt County at this time.

I would like to find out when and where Anne (Eva Sofia) she passed away.

Looking for info. on CHARLES H. POLLEY born in Mendocino Co., probably in about 1865.  He has a dau. named Bertha A. Polley Gibbs who was born in 1888, so unless she is the last of many children, that is how I guessed at the possible birth date of Charles.   Charles married a Ms. Cunninhgam (from San Dimus Co.).  Her first name may be Fran or Wren.   Also interested in *any* other POLLEYs in Mendocino Co. 

I am looking for any information on Charles H. Veeder and his descendants. Charles Veeder was one of the original settlers of the town of Calpella in 1857. he died in Bakersfield September, 1875. Any Veeders out there please reply, I am trying to update the Veeder Genealogy which was done by Vreeland, Leonard in 1937. Your help is needed. If you are a descendant of Simon Volkertse and Engeltie Veeder of New York (1624-1697) I would like to hear from you. 

I am looking for any information on my paternal grandfather.  His name was
Harold Roberts.  He was born in Fort Bragg on May 21, 1893.  His father's name
was Carl and his mother's name was Bessie.  I do not know her maiden name but
would appreciate any help in finding that out.  Carl moved to Fort Bragg when
he was 12 on a wagon train from Missouri.  I don't know if he had siblings( I
don't believe he did).  Any information anyone could help me with would be
greatly appreciated and I would be willing to share any information with
anyone. Thank you.
