Dr. H. F. Dormody, an able physician and surgeon of Monterey, was born in El Dorado county, California, March 28, 1895, the son of Leonard J. and Nellie (Bosworth) Dormody, both natives of California, for the Doctor's grandfathers, in both paternal and maternal lines came across the great plains in 1847. Like many another in those times, they first engaged in a search for gold and afterwards turned their attention to ranching and stock-raising. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Dormody, honored as pioneers, are now living at Placerville. Dr. Dormody received his early educational training from his mother, and after that entered the high school, from which he passed to the University of California, where he was graduated with the coveted degree of Bachelor of Arts. He then matriculated in the medical college of the University of California but was interrupted in his studies by his enlistment in the Medical Reserve Corps. He took the examination for an aviation pilot, but he was never called to active service. On his discharge, he resumed his medical studies at the University of California and by 1921 he had completed his course. Then he spent sixteen months as interne in the Mt. Zion Hospital, in San Francisco, and during 1921-22, he was interne in the City and County Hospital, in the same city. In May, 1922, he was given the coveted degree of Doctor of Medicine and from that time to the following December he was resident physician from the University of California in the City and County Hospital at San Francisco.

In November, 1922, Dr. Dormody came to Monterey, and has since built up an enviable practice. He is a member of the American Medical Association and of the State and the County Medical Societies and through research and service has kept in touch with the latest scientific discoveries and methods, rendering valuable aid to his fellowmen.

In July, 1922, Dr. Dormody was married to Miss Edna Ednah, of San Francisco, and they are now the happy parents of one child, a son, Hugh F. Dormody, Jr. In college Dr. Dormody belonged to the Nu Sigma Nu and the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternities. He is a member of the Elks and the Knights of Pythias, and is a third degree Mason. He votes rather for the candidate that attracts him, and in whom he has confidence, as he also supports measures he thoroughly approves of, rather than to vote according to party dictates. In the field of sport his interest is in golf.
