CARL HUSEMANN

Carl Husemann is proprietor of the Carmel Bakery on Ocean avenue, a favorite rendezvous for housewives and at certain hours of the day one of the busiest marts in town. He was born in Germany July 25, 1880, and while still in his native country, learned the baker's trade. This he also followed as a journeyman for several years in various parts of the country, working in the best bakeries in many large and representative cities like Berlin. He became an expert in his line long before he was ready to sail to the United States in 1908.

At length Mr. Husemann decided to try his fortune in America and on reaching Milwaukee, Wisconsin, conducted a bakeshop of his own in that city. On pushing still farther west, to Seattle, he followed his trade there and going south to San Francisco, was employed by the best hotels and bakeries in that city.

Coming to Carmel in 1919 Mr. Husemann established the Carmel Bakery on Ocean avenue, which is today the only bakery in town. It is not surprising that he enjoys a large trade because of the excellent quality of his goods and his progressive business methods. He has rebuilt the oven and added new and modern machinery; and now has a well equipped plant, able to turn out one thousand or more loaves of bread a day, as well as fancy pastry of all kinds. Mr. Husemann is also the owner of the Carmel-by-the-Sea camp grounds for auto tourists, located on the highway near town, a laudable undertaking, supplying a long-felt need. There are twenty lots and the camp has become very popular with travelers.

Fraternally Mr. Husemann is a Knight of Pythias, belonging to Monterey Lodge, and he is interested in all that pertains to the progress and welfare of the community. Carmel welcomes him as a citizen and here in this growing community, he is developing a trade that is very gratifying and which is the merited reward of his labor, experience and skill.
