The Monterey County Genealogical Society was founded 1982 in Salinas. They are a non-profit organization and serve the Central Coast of California. The goal of the Society is to provide education, fellowship and support to its members and to the community of family history researchers both locally and throughout the world.
They provide a broad range of research services conducted by qualified members. Their volunteers work from the Monterey Family History Center, which is one of the top Family History Libraries in California. The library has a generous collection of FHL microfilm, and includes extensive local, national and international research material such as vital records, year books, directories, cemetery records, and much much more! They will obtain official birth, marriage and death certificates upon request.

The Society publishes the MoCoGenSo By-Monthly, a newsletter which provides members with data, vital record lists, articles, queries, and upcomming genealogy events. This publication is exchanged with other genealogy societies and local libraries which provides a broader field of research for their members. They also publish a selection of Monterey County books which are available for purchase from the Society.
The Society holds general meetings and informational programs at the Monterey Family History Center the First Thursday of each month. Doors open at 6:30 pm for socializing and research; meetings begin at 7 pm. The library is open until 9 pm on meeting nights. Guests are always welcome at all meetings.
