JOHN LEONI DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Highly Respected Resident of This City For Many Years Has Passed Away

John Leoni, a highly respected resident of this city for over twenty past, died this morning about 8 o'clock at his home 354 Ford street after a lingering illness. He had been hale and hearty up to a few months ago when he suddenly failed and after suffering with remarkable fortitude for many weeks he finally found peace and rest in death this morning. The funeral will be held next Wednesday morning from the family residence on Ford street with high mass at St Patrick's church at 9:30 o'clock. The body will be interred in the Catholic cemetery.

Mr. Leoni was a native of Switzerland and was aged 70 years, 11 months, and 16 days at the time of his death. He came to the United States when a boy of seventeen years with Stephen Martinelli of this city, and they crossed the Isthmus of Panama. He had lived in this section of the state ever since his arrival in California, and besides residing here for twenty two years had spent many years in Monterey and the Salinas Valley, San Luis Obispo and other sections. Forty-seven years ago he married Jennie Artellan of Monterey, who still survives him.

Mr. Leoni was well known in Watsonville and all that knew him held him in the highest esteem. He was a kindly gentleman who made friends with all whom he met and there will be great regret over his remise. Always a kind father, a loving husband, and a good citizen his death will be mourned in a wide circle and the family has the sincere sympathy of all its friends.

Besides his widow and a sister, Mrs Saraphina Giacomazzi of Soledad, he is survived by the following children; Mrs. B. Rubis , Mrs A. G. Vyeda, Mrs J. Silva, Emma Leoni, Ida Leoni, John Leoni, Albert Leoni of Watsonville, Mrs. A. E. Morelli of Davenport, Mrs. P. L. Taglio of Newman, Mrs. C. Berry of Holister, twentythree grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
