MINNIE D. ARTELLAN
Minnie D. Artellan, 93, a homemaker, died Friday of complications of a stroke at Driftwood Convalescent Hospital in Monterey.
Born in Gonzales on Dec 19, 1897, Mrs. Artellan had lived most of her life in Monterey. She and her husband James were married at the San Carlos Cathedral in 1918 and then lived in Big Sur until 1927, when they returned to Monterey.
Although a homemaker for most of her life Mrs. Artellan also worked as a cook for several restaurants in Monterey, becoming locally known throughout the years for her special tamales. In her later years she worked as a nanny for many children on the peninsula.
She was a member of San Carlos parish.
Survivors include a son Ralph of Marina, two daughters, Juanita Rodrigues of Carmel Valley and Gloria Machado of Carmel; a sister Marion LeMestres of San Jose; a half brother, Adolph Rosales of Yakima, Wash; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Her husband James died in 1960.
Friends may call at the Paul Mortuary today and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. the rosary will be recited on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the mortuary chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at San Carlos Cathedral, followed by burial in San Carlos Cemetery.
