Manuel Alfonso Ambrosio, native of Monterey and descendant of two pioneer Monterey families, died this morning at the home of his son, Manuel J. Ambrosio, at 1318 Shafter St., Del Monte Park. His death followed a brief illness. Manuel Alfonso Ambrosio was born at Monterey Oct. 30, 1892. he was descended on his mothers side from Don Manuel Boronda who was a member of the military escort for Fray Junipero Serra and who built the Boronda Adobe in 1917. On his father’s side, he was the grandson of Francisco Ambrosio who established the Old Whaling Station in Monterey. Mr. Ambrosio was a veteran of navy service in World War I and worked much of his life as a cook. He owned several restaurants over the years, the last before his retirement was the Shamrock Café in Salinas. In recent years he had made his home at White Rock south of Carmel Valley. He was a member of Monterey American legion Post 41 and the Monterey Elks Lodge. Surviving Mr. Ambrosio are his wife, Bessie, of White Rock; his son, a Half-sister Mrs. Tulita Westfal of Carmel and one grandchild. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning form the Dorney and Farlinger Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Cementerio El Encinal.

Manuel Ambrosio Rites Tuesday
Funeral services for Manuel Alfonso Ambrosio, a native of Monterey and descendant of two pioneer families of the area, will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the F&GMC. The Rev. Ralph Mulholland of the First Baptist Church of Seaside will officiate at the rites. Burial will take place in Cementerio El Encinal. Mr. Ambrosio died Saturday morning at he home of his son, Manuel J. Ambrosio, in Del Monte Park
