Celia H. Lien, 97, a Pacific Grove resident for many years, died Monday at the San Rafael Convalescent Hospital in Marin County after a period of failing health. Mrs. Lien, born Oct. 6, 1879, in Stavanger, Norway, came to this country in her late teens, living in Wisconsin and South Dakota before moving to Pacific Grove in 1938. She was a charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Salinas. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Winston (Bunny) Sjotvedt of Pacific Grove, Mrs. Leonard (Alnora) Spencer of San Rafael, Mrs. Ember (Ruth) Offerdahl of St. James, Minn., and Mrs. Arnold (Pearl) Larson of Dickinson, N.D.; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. A fifth daughter, Evangeline Parker, died in 1958. Mrs. Lien’s husband, Kristian A. Lien, died two years ago. Services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at The Paul Mortuary. The Rev. Theodore Iverson of Bethlehem Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in El Carmelo Cemetery.
