Funeral services were held at the Struve and LaPorte Funeral Chapel in Salinas yesterday afternoon for Lorell McCann, 67, who died Saturday in his Salinas home after a period of failing health. Rev. M.L. Kemper of the First United Presbyterian Church officiated. Private inurnment in the Garden of Memories Cemetery followed. One of the founders of the Monterey County Symphony Orchestra and coordinator of the group from 1946 to 1954. Mr. McCann was well known in the county’s musical circles. A native of Garden City, Utah, he received a graduate degree from San Jose State College and taught at schools in Ventura and Culver City before coming to Salinas High School. He retired as an instructor from Hartnell College in 1963. For ten years, Mr. McCann was state chairman of the Western Division of the Music Educator’s Conference. At the time of his death, he was the president of the Salinas Concert Association and a member of the cultural coordination committee of the Salinas Chamber of Commerce and the American Symphony Orchestra Association. He was also a member of the Salinas Rotary Club, Salinas lodge 204 F&AM, the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco and the National Retired Teachers Association. He is survived by his wife, Erma B. McCann of 106 Carmel Ave.; two sons, Stephen L. McCann of Pacific Grove and Richard C. McCann of San Jose; two daughters, Mrs. A.D. Hendricks of Escondido and Mrs. Irvin M. Hall Jr. of Riverside. Mr. McCann is also survived by two brothers, Laurence and Loys McCann, both of Logan, Utah; three sisters, Mrs. Vera Erickson of Montclair, Calif., Mrs. Cliff Obray of Paradise, utah, and Mrs. Harry Stock of Logan; and eight grandchildren.
