Snow Setting for Wedding
Highlands Inn chapel, known the world over for its spectacular view of ocean and cliffs, presented a different aspect Sunday afternoon during the wedding ceremony of Jo Anne Christensen and Merrill Lu Verne Peterson. The heavy snowfall had covered the trees and slopes with white, and flakes were still falling when the couple exchanged vows at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Houston Clark officiating. Not only that but the bride and groom followed their original plans and left immediately after the reception for Lake Tahoe to “Visit the snow.” The bride, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Christensen of Pacific Grove, is a graduate of Pacific Grove High School and has been employed by the Monterey branch of the Bank of America. She has one brother, Roy Garth Christensen of Santa Clara, two nephews, Michael and Robert Christensen and a niece, Stacy ann Christensen. Merrill is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Lars Peterson of Boone, Iowa, where he attended high school and junior college. He served four years with the navy and completed control data corporation school. He is now a computer maintenance technician with the Fleet Numerical Weather Facility at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. The chapel was decorated with white chrysanthemums and wrought iron candelabra. Special music was played by Wesley Chase on the organ. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a waltz-length gown of imported Venetian lace with a bateau neckline, fitted bodice and bouffant skirt. Her veil of imported English illusion with handrolled edge was held by a pillbox crown of lace and pearls. Her flowers were white butterfly orchis with stephanotis. Her matron of honor was her sister-in-law, Mrs. Roy Garth Christensen, who wore a gown of pale blue silk organza over taffeta with fitted bodice and slightly full skirt and a small white veiled crown. She carried a nosegay of tiny white roses. Best man was Richard Galle Elms of Monterey and the usher was Roy Garth Christensen. For her daughter’s wedding, Mrs. Christensen chose a Dior blue silk ensemble, white flowered hat, white gloves and a corsage of white butterfly orchids. The groom’s parents, his sister, Mary Jo, his brother, Thomas Charles, and his grandmother, Mrs. Charles Dutton, all of Boone, Iowa, were unable to attend the wedding. Upon their return from Lake Tahoe the newlyweds will be at home after Feb. 1 at 555 Ocean Ave, Monterey.
