Dr. William H. Forestelle, 82, of Monterey, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at his home. He was born Oct. 13, 1920, in Des Moines, Iowa, and lived in Monterey. He attended the University of Southern California and Northern Medical School. He did his internship and residency at Santa Clara County Hospital and practiced medicine for 35 years. He was chief of staff at Monterey Peninsula Hospital in 1962. He was a civilian commercial pilot and owned his own airplane, which he enjoyed flying for more than 25 years. He was a fine wood craftsman and traveled all over the world with his wife. Military service: U.S. Navy, earning his wings in 1943, with two tours in the South Pacific on a small aircraft carrier, flying F4F Wildcats. Memberships: Interfraternity Scholarship Key, Delta Chi Fraternity at USC; Phi Beta Pi Medical Fraternity at Northern Medical School; American Board of Family Practice; American Medical Association; Monterey Peninsula Hospital Board of Directors; Monterey Academy of Medicine president; State Adviser of the California Medical Assistants Association. He also served on the Medical Assistants Advisory Committee for Monterey Peninsula College. He served on the board of directors for Monterey County Heart Association, Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army, Monterey Peninsula Airport, Navy League and Pacheco Men's Club. Survivors: Wife of 57 years, Edie Forestelle of Monterey; sons, William (Judi) Forestelle of Oxnard, John (Linda) Forestelle of Bakersfield and Thomas (Lori) Forestelle of Mololla, Ore. He also is survived by five grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Celebration of life: 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 30, San Carlos Cathedral, 500 Church St., Monterey. Memorials: Hospice Foundation for the Central Coast, P.O. 1798, Monterey 93942. Arrangements: The Paul Mortuary, 390 Lighthouse Ave., Pacific Grove. Military service The Californian designates obituaries of military veterans with a flag to honor them for their service.
