George I. Fox of Carmel, the first superintendent of the PG&E Co.’s Moss Landing steam plant, died Sunday at the Hospice of the Monterey Peninsula after a long illness. He was 89. Mr. Fox, who was born in Hanford on Dec. 28, 1894, arrived on the Monterey Peninsula in 1950, when he was assigned by the utility company to help establish the steam plant. He retired from PG&E in 1960 as the Moss Landing plant superintendent. He was a member of Parnassus Presidio Lodge 388 F&M, of San Francisco. Mr. Fox is survived by his wife, Anna; a son, Bennett, of Monterey; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at The Paul Mortuary Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Wayne Adams, pastor of the Cypress Community Church, will officiate. Entombment will take place Wednesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale. Friends may call at The Paul Mortuary today between 5 an d9 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Hospice of the Monterey Peninsula.
