Marcelle M. Villani, 95, of Salinas, a retired clinical psychologist, died Wednesday at Casa Serena health Care Center. Dr. Villani was born Oct. 1, 1897, in New York City. She was a member of the Red Cross since 1916, serving with the organization during World War I. She graduated from Notre Dame of Staten Island in 1939 and took nursing training before teaching in New York City. Dr. Villani attended Fordham University, earning her master’s degree in psychiatric social work. She was licensed in Illinois, New York and California and was a former head of the Department of Psychiatry at Willowbrook State School in New York. Dr. Villani served as Maryland Director of Camps during World War II and later earned her doctorate from new York University in 1957. A resident of Salinas for 20 years, she was a member of Sacred Heart parish and the church’s Altar Society. Dr. Villani was a charter member of the National Association of Social Workers and a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Division of Psychology. She also belonged to the Legion of Mary, Catholic Daughters of America and the National Catholic Communities Service of Washington, D.C. She is survived by two nieces and two nephews. Visitation will be held tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Whitehurst Muller Chapel. Cryptside services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
