Airships – wreckage of Airship Macon, which crashed and sank off the Big Sur coast during stormy weather on Feb. 12, 1935, was discovered by a Navy submarine north of Point Sur on June 25, 1990, about 1,450 feet beneath the sea, about 2 miles from shore; the Macon was 785 feet long, served as a flying airport for the military’s Sparrowhawk airplanes (Herald 6/26/90 p1); see also Nat. Geog. Jan. 1992 14 page article cc 7/8/90)
