Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA Aug. 3, 1960 p2
Mrs. Ethelwyn Stagg Watts, a resident of Carmel Highlands since last October, died yesterday morning in a local hospital after a long period of failing health. Mrs. Watts was born Feb. 3, 1898, in Orange, N.J. She received her early education in Danbury, Conn., and in New Haven, later graduating from the Connecticut Teachers College. She took postgraduate work at Yale University and received a degree at the University of California. For over 20 years Mrs. Watts was owner and director of Stagg Manor, a private school in Danville, Calif., before coming, with her husband, Maj. Ruskin Watts (USAF ret), to make her home in Carmel Highlands. Maj. Watts is vice president of the Alfred Allen Watts Co. Inc. of New York. In addition to her husband, survivors include three brothers, Robert Arthur Stagg of Plainville, Conn., Carl Stagg of New Haven, Conn., and Donald Albert Stagg of South San Francisco; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Post of New Haven, and several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Jeanie Spilker of Danville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in All Saintsí Episcopal Church of Carmel, to be followed by burial at noon Friday in the family plot at the Alamo cemetery in Alamo, Contra Costa County. The Rev. David Hill, rector of All Saintsí Church, will officiate at both rites. The Paul Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. Friends wishing to make contributions in the memory of Mrs. Watts may do so in the form of donations to the Monterey County Cancer Research Society, Monterey.
