Pre-Nuptial Parties Held for Miss Mary Washburn
One of the pre-nuptial courtesies extended Miss Mary Washburn, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. H.E. Washburn, whose marriage to Bartlett Weslar of Crockett will take place Saturday afternoon at the Del Monte Chapel, was the surprise party given by a group of her friends recently at her parents’ home. Miss Rosalie Kimball and Miss Joan Giamona were responsible for the happy affair and with the assistance of the sisters of the honoree, the Misses Margaret and Marjorie Washburn, had decorated the table for the late supper and the shower of gifts. Carrying out a May Day motif, streamers of satin ribbon led from a Maypole to baskets in which the gifts were placed. Bingo and guessing games were the diversion of the evening with the prizes for bingo games going to Miss Marcella Tumbleson, and the prize for guessing contest to Miss Gordon Olmsted. Miss Ada Thatcher was awarded the “Booby” prize. Present to fete the bride elect were Mesdames Hazel Lustig, Margaret Armstrong, Melba Gunn, Dorothy Hilbert, Ruth Raw, Amelia Doolittle, Misses Gordon Olmsted, Iris Parker, Lois Chadney, Jessie Kerr, Rosalie Kimball, Juanita Slinger, Patricia Holman, Minnie Ferrante, Dorothy Aucourt, Patsy Stutzman, Joan Giamona, Mary Callender, Dorothy Stubbs, Luella Clemens, Marcella Tumbleson, Charlotte Hohnemann and Margaret and Marjory Washburn. In the afternoon of the same day the bride-elect shared honors with Miss Luella Clemens at a tea given by Miss Juanita Slinger, and at the dinner hour she was the Complimented guest of her aunt, Mrs. Hugh Hazzard.
