Pacific Grove Tribune, CA Dec. 1, 1944
Miss Helen Ward, Cpl. Carroll Hall Wed at Santa Barbara
At Santa Barbara on November 20, Miss Helen Louise Ward, well known former Pacific Grove girl, and Cpl. Carroll Wayne Hall of Champagne, Illinois, were united in marriage by Rev. Thereon Chastain of the First Baptist Church, the ceremony taking place at 10 o’clock that evening, at the parsonage. The maid of honor, Miss Erline Thompson, also of the Grove, was the bride’s only attendant. The attractive blonde bride wore a modish powder blue wool crepe dress, with a very tiny hat, veiled in pink, and carried doeskin gloves to match. Other accessories were of black patent leather. Her attendant also wore a wool crepe dress of gold studded black and aqua, small black hat and matching accessories. Just following the ceremony a group of friends gathered informally at “El Ranchero” to offer best wishes to the newlyweds, who spent a four day honeymoon in Santa Barbara, before Cpl. Hall returned to duty at Camp Roberts. The bride left Thanksgiving day for Vancouver, Wash., to visit her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Atley D. Ward, who left Pacific Grove shortly after their daughter graduated with the Monterey High School class of ’42. She had also attended Pacific Grove schools. The bride and her attendant were high school chums, graduated together, spent a year together in Washington, and for several months had been living in Santa Barbara. Cpl. Hall’s mother, Mrs. Mae Hall of Illinois was unable to attend her son’s wedding, but became acquainted with her daughter-in-law a few months ago, when the latter visited in the East. The young couple have no brothers or sisters. Their marriage culminated a two years romance, as they met while both were engaged in war work in Portland. On a January furlough Cpl. Hall will join his bride in Vancouver, and they will return to make their home in Paso Robles as long as he is stationed at Camp Roberts.
