J.A. Goodrick Dies in Oakland
John A. Goodrick, pioneer Buena Vista district rancher and a resident of Monterey for the past 20 years, died early today at King’s Daughters home, an Oakland hospital. He was 87 years old. A native of England, Mr. Goodrick came to Monterey County 67 years ago and soon became foreman of Hiram Corey’s extensive Buena Vista ranch, near Spreckels. He also served as roadmaster under the late Thomas J. Field. He married Miss Ruffina Cantua, member of a prominent family of Salinas pioneers. She passed away five years ago. Later he became an independent rancher in the Buena Vista section, retiring 20 years ago and moving to Monterey. Mr. Goodrick was well known among old time residents of both Monterey and Salinas. He leaves four sons, Joe L. Goodrick, Carmel; John C. Goodrick, Spreckels; Thomas H. Goodrick, Oakland; and William Goodrick, San Francisco. Fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services, which will be in charge of the Dorney funeral home are to be announced later.
