Ray W. Malloy Jr., a retired police officer, died Thursday at his Salinas home. He was 65. Born in Akron, Ohio, on Aug. 18, 1934, he had lived in Salinas since he was 30. Mr. Malloy was an Army veteran and an officer with the Salinas Police Department for 15 years. After he retired, he worked as a bartender in Salinas and at Alfredo’s Cantina in Monterey. Mr. Malloy was also a member of Madonna del Sasso Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Salinas Police Benevolent Association, American Legion Post 589, Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed golf, photography, the mountains, Notre Dame and Cleveland Browns football, and St. Patrick’s Day. Mr. Malloy is survived by his former wife, Doris Malloy, and a daughter, Diane Rae Malloy, both of Salinas; a son, Ray W. Malloy III of Fort Collins, Colo.; four sisters, Mary Catherine Lavery, Patience Totaro and Rita Nelson, all of Akron, Ohio, and Theresa Ann Dorricott of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; two brothers, Joseph Malloy of Akron and John Malloy of Stow, Ohio; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Madonna del Sasso Church. A reception will follow at American Legion Post 31, Salinas. Struve & Laporte Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. A second service to celebrate his life will be held at 1 p.m. April 29 at American Legion Post 589, Salinas. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society, Pacific Grove.
