Peter Paul Schaffer, a retired Air Force officer, died of cancer Saturday at Hospice House in Monterey. He was 70. Born July 15, 1929, in Cleveland, he lived in Monterey County for eight years. He served in the Air Force for 22 years, retiring in 1967 with the rank of captain. After retiring from the military, he worked as a contracts manager for McDonnell Douglas for nine years, then went on to Librascope in Glendale, where he worked for nearly a decade before his retirement in 1992. He was a member of Monterey Peninsula Country Club, Rancho Canada Golf Club, Sons in Retirement of Carmel, the Retired Officers Association in Carmel, and the American Legion, Monterey Post. For two years, he volunteered as a marshal at the AT7T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament. His hobbies included golfing, traveling, walking on the beach and writing letters to editors. Mr. Schaffer also enjoyed reading and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Donna; a daughter, Penelope Schaffer of San Antonio; two sons, Paul Schaffer of Houston and Bruce Schaffer of San Antonio; his mother, Mary Brack of Cleveland; his stepmother, Rachel Schaffer of Monterey; and three grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at a later data. Mission Mortuary of Monterey is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be sent to the Hospice Foundation of the Central Coast, Monterey, the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop, Pacific Grove, or the American Cancer Society,
