Monterey County Herald, CA April 28, 2000
Helen Eileen Beardsley, born Helen Eileen Brandmeir on April 5, 1930 in Seattle, Washington, passed away in Healdsburg, CA on April 26, 2000. Helen attended Holy Names Academy and Seattle University, studying nursing. In 1949, she married Richard Dale North. In June, 1960, Helen, now a mother of eight children, was widowed. She married Frances Beardsley, a widower with ten children. By 1964, they had added two more children of their own. Helen authored a book, “Who Gets the Drumsticks?” – a movie, Yours, Mine and Ours, was produced based on their story. During this time Helen received the National Campfire Girls Mother of the Year Award and was appointed as commissioner, Advisory Commission on the Status of Women for the State of California. In 1937, Helen pursued her long simmering desire for a career in the medical field, first at Carmel Community Hospital and then in Fresno, as a Cardiovascular Technologist at Saint Agnes Medical Center. Sadly, in the early nineties, having just earned a Certificate in Medical Transcribing, Helen began a long battle with stroke and Parkinson disease. She is survived by Francis Beardsley and 20 children, Michael, Rusty, Gregory, Rosemary, Louise, Colleen, Janette, Mary, Nicholas, Susan, Thomas, Veronica, Jeanie, Phillip. Germaine, Gerry, Joanie, Teresa, Joseph and Helen; 44 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; eight brothers and sisters, Mary, James, Robert, Rita, Frank, Jack, Patricia and Kathleen. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Monday, May 1, 2000 at 1:00 PM at St. Rose Catholic Church, Santa Rosa. Memorial Vigil Rites will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2000 at 7:00 PM at the Daniels Chapel of the Roses, Santa Rosa. Private inurnment. Arrangements under the care of Daniels Chapel of the Roses Funeral Home and Cremetory.
