Death Takes D. MacGregor of Carmel
Daniel Douglas MacGregor, 63 of Carmelo and Eleventh streets, Carmel, died yesterday in a local hospital after an extended period of failing health. With his wife, Jessie Harrison MacGregor, now a well-known member of the Carmel Art Association, he came to live on the Peninsula at the time of his retirement seven years ago. Mr. MacGregor was born and spent his early youth in Greenock, Scotland, and was graduated from Glasgow University. He served during World War I with the 14th Argyle Sutherland Highlanders, and was wounded in action with his unit. In 1920 he came to the United States, and for many years made his home in the San Francisco Bay area. An employe of the Associated Oil Company, he became vice president of its affiliate, the Mitsubishi Oil Company of Japan, and with Mrs. MacGregor lived for more than 10years in the Orient. He was a life member of Killwinning Lodge 12, F&AM of Greenock, and belonged also to the Royal Society of Arts, London, the American Club of Japan, the Rotarians of Tokyo, the Monterey Peninsula Country Club, “The Group” of Carmel, and a number of other organizations and clubs. He was a member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church of Carmel. In addition to his wife, Mr. MacGregor leaves a daughter, Mrs. Josephine Rosalie Crabbe of Manila; a brother, Josiah Gilroy MacGregor of Paisley, Scotland; and two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Carrick of Edinburgh, Scotland, and Mrs. Mary Henrietta Laidlaw of Melrose, Scotland. Private funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the T.A. Dorney Chapel, Monterey, with the Rev. Alfred B. Secombe officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Little Chapel by-the-Sea Crematorium, Pacific Grove. Friends are requested to omit flowers.
