Frank Mckechnie, Ph.D., 53, distinguished scholar and educator, died last night in a local hospital following a brief illness. With his wife, Mary, he came to live in Carmel last year after his retirement, making a home at Casanova street and 13th avenue. Mr. McKechnie was born Dec. 10, 1896, in Oakland. He was a graduate of Stanford University, receiving his bachelorís degree in 1925. He later received his masterís degree at Stanford and his Ph.D. degree at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. Mr. McKechnie was a veteran of World Wars I and II. He served with the Department of Naval intelligence in Washington, D.C., and more recently in Cairo, Egypt. He taught in the University of Madrid, Spain, and was a Spanish instructor later at the University of California at Los Angeles. Mr. McKechnie was a member of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity. In addition to his wife, he leaves a brother, Donald McKechnie of Oakland, and two sisters, Mrs. William Walters and Mrs. Frederick Hedemark of Piedmont. Funeral services are pending at the Mission Mortuary and will be announced later.

Private Rites Held
Private services for Frank McKechnie, 53 of Carmel, were held yesterday from the Mission Mortuary. Inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. Mr. McKechnie, retired educator, died Thursday night in a local hospital after a brief illness.
