Leo Smith, a resident of Carmel Valley for the past 10 years, died last evening in a local hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Smith was born Oct. 13, 1891, in Blanchester, Ohio. He was a member of Blanchester Lodge, F&AM and the Knights Templar Order in Wellington, Ohio. With his wife, Stella B. Smith, he made his home at 25 Esquiline Rd. in Carmel Valley and for the past years had been employed as a gardener and caretaker. In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Madeline S. Ransom of Bethesda, Md., and Mrs. Dorothy S. Jones of Cairo, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Opal Daugherty and Mrs. Zella Hendry, living in Ohio; five brothers, Virgil, Stanley, Ralph and Fred Smith of Ohio and Earl Smith of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and several grandchildren. Funeral services are pending at the Mission Mortuary and will be announced later.

Set Tomorrow Leo Smith Rites
Funeral services for Leo Smith of Carmel Valley will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Mission Mortuary with the Rev. Don Johnson and Carmel Lodge 680 F&AM officiating. Burial will follow in the Oddfellows Cemetery at Blanchester, Ohio. Mr. Smith died Thursday evening in a local hospital after a brief illness. Contributions in his memory may be made in the form of donations to the Rose Garden Fund of the Carmel Valley Community Church.
