Johansens celebrate 52nd anniversary
By Sharon Johansen
Don and Ruby Johansen have been residing in beautiful Pacific Grove for over 50 years now. My father Don has lived in Monterey County since 1926 and graduated from Pacific Grove High School in 1942. His mother, the late Marie Johansen, formerly owned the restored Victorian known as the “Centrella Hotel” in Pacific Grove for many years. After marrying Ruby for ate 18, in the Mayflower Church in P.G., the couple is now celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary in Las Vegas. Both celebrated their wedding night at the Centrella Hotel (compliments of his mother). Today both are currently enjoying “life in retirement land.” Ruby began working in Pacific Grove with Top Hat market for five years, continuing on as a grocery checker with Super Save (now Grove Market) for 10 years. As a member of the United Food Retail Cerks Union, she retired after 20 years with Safeway Stores. Don Johansen recently retired from H&H Auto Repair, located in Seaside, California, as a service manager. He was owner of “Johansen’s Pacific Grove Garage” on Fountain Avenue for 23 years and formerly was with Murray Vout car dealership in Monterey. Coming from a family of eleven brothers and sisters, many of our family members continue to live in the local area. This is a recorded memory for ones that are aware and remember. My parents are a great example of respected Samarians, who not only remember the Good Ol’ Days in Pacific Grove, but were also a part of its history. They added to their lives four children – Linda, Duane, Craig and Sharon – who also are fortunate to grow up through the years in the hometown called “Pacific Grove”!
